Lady Pirates Grind It Out For Overtime Win Over Cowley

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - After enjoying three consecutive wins, the Independence Lady Pirates returned home to host the Cowley County Tigers. The game was back and forth down the stretch and even took an extra five minutes, but the Lady Pirates prevailed in the contest to push their win streak to four games, 83-77.

The Lady Pirates had three players in double figures led by Fatarah Kinnard with 21 points, Mychaell Gray with 20 points and Sadie Jordan with 10 points. Gray also recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds.

"I really feel that we had a lot of good state tonight," coach Leslie Crane said. "We outscored them 46-22 with points in the paint, 19-9 with points off turnovers and 40-12 with points off the bench. We outrebounded them and shot 77 percent from the free throw line and 44 percent from the three-point line to give us a great performance."

"We are maturing and learning from the close games that we lost so that we can do something different down the stretch and be the ones in charge of our postseason destiny. I think that we were tired of being on the road so much, but it has made us tougher mentally and physically to get after it and win games in front of our home crowd."
