Pirates’ STUNT Team Begins Season At Home Sunday Against Drury University

January 31, 2019

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - With time winding down as the season approaches, the Independence Pirates STUNT team gears up Sunday February 3 for their first competition. Beginning a new era, the expectations of the team are different, but with some of the same values.

"This year will be different from last year as our team and schedule has grown from last season," Coach Cody Westerhold said. "Last year, we competed five times with each competition in Oklahoma City, but Sunday we begin this season at home."

"Our athletes have been working really hard since they arrive in August. What most people don't think about is that cheerleading doesn't have one particular season. So we have been working hard not only to be Game-Day ready but also prepping for our competition season. Our athletes have been setting a lot of team goals for the season. To help achieve those goals, they have been coming in and putting in a lot of extra hours, on thop of their busy schedules, to work these routines."

ICC will be competing against the Drury University Panthers who are also competing for the first time this season. Sunday's competition is set to begin at 1:30 pm.
