Pirates fall to Allen County

The ICC Pirates, in the midst of a lengthy scheduled and weather induced homestretch, came up short against conference foe Allen County.

Unable to make a mark on the scoreboard in the first game, ICC fell to the Red Devils 5-0. After Allen County scored two quick runs in the first, neither team had much success for the next several innings vs the ramped up defensive intensity of the other team. Allen put the Pirates away with another 3 runs in the 7th, earning the first victory.

The bats came out to play in the second game of the double header. Both teams put a single run on the scoreboard in the first. Then, the second inning saw the hometown Pirates score four runs with a bases-clearing grand slam by freshman Jamie Keeling. However, the Red Devils answered back with 3 runs of their own in the 3rd inning, making the game 5-4.

Back and forth they went right up to the bottom of the 7th where the game went to extra innings tied up at 8 runs apiece. The Red Devils did just enough to scrape a run in the top of the 8th, and the Pirates were unable to move runners to home, finishing the game with a hard fought but 1 run loss. The final was 9-8 in favor of Allen County.

The Pirates will again be home this Saturday for a double header vs Highland.
