Independence, KS - Independence Community College is thrilled to announce Jason 'Jai' Steadman as the new Men’s Basketball Coach. Coach Steadman brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the program, ICC is anxious to see the team's growth under his leadership.
“I am excited and honored to be hired as the next men’s basketball coach at Independence Community College”, Steadman said. “I look forward to competing in the Jayhawk Conference and will do my best to make Pirate nation proud.
With an impressive track record Coach Steadman’s journey has taken him to various NCAA division I institutions including a 7-year stint at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and most recently the University of Maine. Twice he served as an Assistant Coach (2009-12, 2022-23) with the Rio Grande Vipers of the NBA D-league and helped them to the 2023 Western Conference Title.
With over 30 years of coaching experience, Coach Steadman’s arrival marks a new era for the Pirates. He is known for his strategic mindset, dedication to player development, and a deep passion for the game of basketball.

Coach Steadman is dedicated to guiding his players not only in basketball but in character development, academic success, and life skills that will serve them well beyond their time on the court. The Independence Pirates are confident that his leadership will lead to greater achievements in the seasons to come.
