Independence CC

Cody Freland enters his second season as the Assistant Coach of the Independence Women’s Basketball team. 

Freland brings 11 years of coaching experience ranging from AAU, highschool, and the college level. He began his coaching career at Colfax-Mingo High School where he served as an assistant coach from 2017-2019. From there, he moved on to Marshalltown CC where he served as an Athletic Administrator and Assistant Coach for two years before being named the Head Coach in 2021. In 2022, he was named the Head Coach of Boyer Valley High School before ultimately landing here at Independence. 

Freland has also coached at the AAU level for Kingdom Hoops, Iowa Intensity, Beyond Ball, and Omaha Sports Academy. 

During his coaching career, he has coached two First Team ICCAC conference players, 2 Honorable Mention ICCAC conference players, and numerous All-Academic teams. 

Freland has also spent time working in the educational field working with children with special needs and behavioral needs. He attended West Marshall High School and was a member of the State Championship Track team as well as the state qualifying basketball team.
