Indy eSports celebrates a successful Fall Season

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - The Independence eSports team finished out a very successful fall season with multiple teams playing in championship matches across three different games.

Counter-Strike:

The Independence Counter-Strike team competed against the University of South Dakota in the semi-finals of the PCL Playoffs and was able to come out on top with a 2-0 victory, securing their place in the Grand Finals, where they once again triumphed 2-0 over Seminole State (Florida) to be named PCL Counter-Strike Champions. The Counter-Strike Roster consisted of Dmytro Maslak, Parahat Babayev, Aerion Kapuy, Ali Baftiri and Lucas Davis. The Fall semester was Dmytro Maslak's last semester here at ICC, and his first scholarship semester with eSports, so the team will be dedicating the championship trophy to him.

Rocket League:

The Independence Rocket League team also competed in the semi-finals of the PCL Playoffs against Stephen F. Austin out of Texas and they also were able to advance to the Final after knocking off SFA 3-0. The Rocket League team also squared off with Seminole State out of Florida in the Grand Final as well, but this time it went the way of Seminole State as they knocked off the Pirate squad 4-2 in the Grand Final match, giving the Pirates 2nd place in the collegiate league.

Call of Duty:

The Independence Call of Duty team finished the Fall Season strong as well as they knocked off Ottawa University 3-0 before eventually falling to Oklahoma Christian 3-2 in the Call of Duty Final for another second place finish.

All in all, it was a very successful season this fall for Indy eSports and Coach Spradlin as they had multiple teams compete in Grand Finals, with the Counter-Strike team bringing home the first eSports trophy in a long time. eSports continues to provide great opportunities for our Independence students as they are able to compete against some of the best in the nation in the PCL.
