Indy MBB knocked off by Pratt

PRATT, Kan. - The Independence Men's basketball team suffered their fifth loss in a row Wednesday night, as they fell on the road to Pratt CC 112-96.

Back on January 27th, it was the Pirates defending homecourt and knocking off Pratt, but the Beavers returned the favor on their home floor as the two teams have split the season series. Much like their first meeting, it was a tight game for all of the first half before the home team began to run away with the game in the second half. Both teams came out of the gate shooting the ball well as at the 10 minute mark of the first half both teams were well on pace to surpass the century mark. At this point, the Pirates had jumped out to a 32-25 advantage, but in a very fast paced game, Pratt answered with a run of their own to take a four point lead just five minutes later. A back and forth final stretch saw Indy take a three point lead with just under a minute in the half, before Pratt scored the final four points, taking a one point lead to the halftime locker room.

Pratt began the second half on a 9-2 run to take a 67-58 lead and never looked back from there. The Pirates were never able to close the gap, as they cut the lead down to seven at the 14-minute mark, but that was as close as they would get, as a 9-0 Pratt run followed to push the lead to 16 and out of reach for Indy.

Indy shot the ball well much of the night as they finished 51% from the field on 68 shots, but the efficiency of Pratt was too much to overcome as they were 44-63 from the field (69.8%), which included 38-49 on two point field goals. The Pirates were able to turn the Beavers over 14 times leading to 12 points, but were outrebounded 34-17, and Pratt dished out 26 assists compared to the Pirates 13. Both team shot 18-23 from the free throw line and the foul count was just about even as well at 19-18, with Pratt being called for one more foul.

The Pirates had four players finish in double figures for scoring, led by Chris Dockery who had 20, and a team high five rebounds as well. Chiante Tramble, Trashaun Combs-Pierce and Jahmari Hamilton-Brown each finished with 17 points apiece. Tramble also pitched in seven assists and four steals. David Wilson posted nine points in just 16 minutes off of the bench.

The loss takes Indy's record to 11-15 overall and 7-13 in KJCCC play. The Pirates will now shift their focus to Saturday, where they will play host to Seward County Community College at 4:00 p.m.
