Slow offensive day leads to two more losses for Indy

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - The Independence Softball team couldn’t overcome a slow day offensively as they dropped both games of Monday’s doubleheader to Cowley, 18-0 and 13-2.

In game one, Cowley was firing on all cylinders as they scored in every inning. The first four batters of the game all reached base and scored, while a nine run fourth inning blew the game open. The Pirates were unable to reach base in the shortened five inning game.

In game two, Cowley didn’t cool off as they once again scored in each inning. As opposed to game one where it was an ambush of runs, the Tigers chipped away each inning scoring just single runs in five of the seven innings, all before plating five in the seventh to put the game well out of reach. The offense for Indy was able to manufacture some runs in game two as Juliann Kindle drove in the first run of the day for the Pirates in the second inning. Indy would score one final run in the final frame, on an RBI single from Madyson Paxton.

The losses moved Indy to 4-18 on the year, and they will now shift their focus to Thursday, as they host Allen County at 2:00.
