John Pittman
Title: Board of Trustee, Legendary Supporter

"John Pittman was a loyal supporter, contributor and friend to Independence Community College during his life. He and his wife, Beverly, labored hundreds of hours to raise funds and assist with the athletic programs at ICC. Pittman personified the qualities that make ICC the great institution that it is today."

Those are the words stated about Pittman after the ICC Board of Trustees officially dedicated the John C. Pittman Heritage Room on Jan. 23, 1988.

Pittman was a longtime booster and supporter of ICC. He was known to work the concession stands, feed players, drive the men’s basketball team and even work the “chain gang” on the sideline of Pirate football games. Annually, players from football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball are selected as the “John Pittman Player of the Year” as the top Pirate performers during that season.

In addition to his work with ICC athletics, Pittman served on the USD 446 Board of Education for 16 years and the ICC Board of Trustees for two terms. He was a self-employed farmer for 32 years and also worked in the maintenance department at ICC for several years.
