     Recognized as one of the top golfers all-time in the state of Kansas, Dave Dennis got his start right here in Independence.

     After capturing a state championship in high school, he followed that up with the 1947 NJCAA championship, winning the event by 14 strokes. In fact, he was instrumental to the Pirates’ success as a team as they finished as the national runner-up.

     Dennis also played two years for the basketball team, earning First Team All-Jayhawk Conference both seasons while leading the entire conference in scoring as a freshman.
