Known as the first two-time All-American in the history of Pirate football, Bob Morgan had a stellar career in Independence and was one of the first Independence players ever to play professional football.

Morgan was a part of a Pirate squad that went 8-2 in 1959. Those eight wins are still tied for the most victories in a single season in ICC history. He was an instrumental part in the team’s success as he still holds a pair of Independence records, including most touchdowns (21) and most points scored (126) in a season.

After his two-year stay at ICC, Morgan went on to become a two-time All-Skyline Conference performer at the University of New Mexico, where he was also named Honorable Mention All-American. From there, he  spent some time in the professional ranks by playing in Montreal and Toronto of the Continental Football League and Toronto in the Canadian Football League. He also spent three seasons (1967-69) in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A native of Wamego, Morgan was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame at Wamego High School and the University of New Mexico.
