Independence, Kan. - The #22 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team defeated the Pirates of Independence 86-43. With the victory, the Red Ravens' extend their current winning streak to seven games in a row and an overall record of 17-3 including a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) record of 12-3. The 12-3 conference mark currently has the Red Ravens third in the 13-team Division I conference.
Coffeyville and Independence played close through the first quarter with the Red Ravens leading the Pirates 17-14 to start the second quarter. However, Coffeyville left the Pirates in the dust over the last three quarters outscoring the Pirates 69-29 over those quarters to earn the 86-43 victory. Coffeyville also led Indy on the stat pages as well, leading in overall shooting percentage (45% to 25%), rebounds (38-34), and assists (23-7).
The top performers for Coffeyville in the game included sophomore Karys Washington, who scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds; sophomore Norika Welch, who scored 13 points; and freshmen Karliey Parker and Aubrey Hishaw, who scored 10 points each.
The Red Ravens will have the weekend off and will return to action on Wednesday, February 5th, with a home game against the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Nellis Gymnasium.
