Butler picks up win number 15 completing season sweep of Independence Saturday night

The Butler women's basketball team (15-1, 14-1) completed the season sweep of the Independence Pirates and are now 3 ½ games up in the KJCCC East after a 73-59 win Saturday night in the Power Plant.

The Grizzlies finally looked like themselves again on Saturday after a couple of sluggish offensive games over the past week shooting 53% from the floor and 33% from behind the arc scoring 73 points, their most in the last three games.

Tamara Nard scored eight of her 25 points in the first quarter getting the Grizzlies out early in the lead, a lead they would never relinquish. A late run to the end the half would spread the Grizzlies lead to 12-points, 36-24 at the half.

Butler would control the pace of the game throughout the second half, getting good minutes from their bench players and come away with the 14-point win over the Pirates.

Tamara Nard led the way scoring 25 points in the game while grabbing eight rebounds. She finished with five assists and two steals. Kaylee Nero scored 14 points on 7-7 shooting with three rebounds and two steals in just 11 minutes on the court. Skyla Knight scored 12 points and dished out five assists while Paris Mullins added in 11 points.

Butler had their best shooting night in five games connecting on 53% of their shots from the floor. They lost the rebound battle with the Pirates, but their 31 turnovers forced allowed them to score 28 points off of Pirate mistakes. The Grizzlies scored over half their points in the paint and had 19 points from the bench.

NEXT UP: Butler will host Garden City (10-7, 9-7) on Monday, March 22 at 5:30pm in the Power Plant making up a game that was rescheduled due to health and safety protocols last month. Butler is now 3 and a half games up in the KJCCC East and will look to claim their third straight KJCCC Championship later this week with a pair of wins.
