Red Ravens Sweep the Indy Pirates 3-0

Independence, Kan. - In an intense showdown of the two JUCO volleyball teams in Montgomery County, the Coffeyville Community College Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Independence Kansas, and swept the Pirates of ICC 3-0.  With the victory, the Red Ravens improve to an overall 12-5 on the season including a 2-2 record in KJCCC matchups.

Both teams were playing good volleyball coming into the matchup with Coffeyville sitting on an 11-5 record and winning four straight matches along with Independence's 8-2 record and winners of their last two and four out of five.

Opening the match, Coffeyville jumped on top winning a close first set 25-22.  The opening set win seemed to strengthen the Ravens' resolve and Coffeyville won the second set 25-19 and then the third set 25-19 to earn the sweep.

Game leaders for Coffeyville included freshman Sarah Madsen with 10 kills and 9 digs in just missing out on the kill-dig double-double and Alexcia Jones with 9 kills and 21 digs to also just miss out on her double-double.  Red Raven freshman setter Taylor Burns earned the double-double with 32 assists to go along with 13 digs.  Freshman Patience Whittaker hit the floor pitching in 15 digs in the match.

The Red Ravens will finally return to Nellis East Gymnasium on Wednesday, September 21st, with a matchup against the #1 NJCAA ranked Johnson County Cavaliers.  The first serve is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
