CHANUTE, Kan. - Coming off a huge win Friday night, the Independence Lady Pirates hit the road to take on the Neosho Panthers. Independence fought hard in each set but fell dropping the contest in three sets. 

In the first set, the Lady Pirates drew first blood on a save by Alessia Laghi that fell in play between Neosho defenders, but the Panthers answered back on a 4-0 run to take the lead. A kill by Briana Prescott cut the lead to two but a net ball extended the lead to 5-2. 

Destiny Thomas delivered a kill and Neosho killed it back pushing the score to 6-3. A 4-3 run by Independence including saves by Laghi and a kill from Jessi Lewman had the Panthers up 9-7, but two straight kills pushed the score to 11-7 for Neosho. 

Patricia Seller delivered a kill and consecutive errors cut the lead to 11-10 and with a mighty kill from Thomas the score was tied at 11-11. A 2-0 run put the Panthers back up 13-11 and after a marathon Neosho got a kill followed by two more to push their lead to 16-11.  

Independence went on a 2-0 run after an ace from Prescott to make it 16-13 but a kill that went too far pushed the score to 17-13. Back to back net balls had the score at 18-14 and a ball in the net followed by a kill had the Lady Pirates trailing by six. 

A push too far made the score 21-14 in favor of the Panthers and an error pushed the lead to eight. Consecutive points cut the lead to six, but a kill had the score 23-16. Independence went on a 3-0 run cutting the lead to 23-19, but a 2-1 run by Neosho saw the Lady Pirates drop the first set, 20-25. 

The second set began with a kill by Prescott for the early lead before a 2-0 Neosho run. A 4-2 run aided by kills from Thomas and Natasha Colon had Independence up 5-3, but a 4-2 run by the Panthers had the set tied at 7-7.  

A block out of bounds gave the Lady Pirates the lead but three consecutive kills followed by an error pushed the Neosho lead to 11-8. A 2-0 run cut the lead down to one after a kill Colon and a net ball tied it at 11-11, but a service error put the Panthers up 12-11. 

Thomas delivered a shot tying the set at 12-12, but a 2-0 run had Neosho in the lead. A block pushed the lead to 15-12 before a kill and an error cut the Panthers' lead to one. 

Another error tied it at 15-15, but a 3-0 run put the Lady Pirates down 15-18. A kill by Colon cut the Neosho lead to two, but a kill for the Panthers had it 19-16 before a kill by Prescott and a net ball cut the lead to one. 

A push too far made the score 20-18 for Neosho but as Seller smashed the ball to the court it was a one-point lead in the set. The Lady Pirates battled back but a 5-2 run for Neosho ended the set as Independence fell 21-25. 

 In the third set, Independence came out on a 4-2 run before Neosho tied it at 4-4. Thomas delivered a kill for the lead but a kill from the Panthers tied the set again. The Teams battled back and forth before a 2-0 run had Neosho up 8-6. Seller cut the lead to one with a kill but a kill from Neosho pushed it to 9-7. 

The Lady Pirates battled back to tie it at 10-10 but back to back kills and a block had the Panthers ahead 13-10. Independence answered on a 2-0 run, but a kill and a block had the score at 15-12. 

A 4-2 Neosho run made it 19-14 and a kill pushed the lead to six at 20-14. The Lady Pirates battled back and despite outscoring the opponent 6-5 dropped the set 20-25. 

The Lady Pirates (7-16, 4-9) return to ICC Field House Friday Night to take on the Pratt Beavers for Sophomore Night with first serve set for 6:30 pm. Prior to the match, the Lady Pirates will recognize the team's four sophomores Alessia Laghi, Briana Prescott, Kylie Shanahan and Kiersten Vincent in their last home match.
