Saturday Recap: Independence Falls To Lady Trojans

INDEPENDENCE, Kan - On Saturday, the Independence Lady Pirates traveled northwest into Thomas County to take on the Colby Lady Trojans. After battling close with #9 Seward County, Wedneday night the vibes for the team were very positive as things were looking up early in the season. 

In the match, the Lady Pirates threw everything they had at the competition, but everytime things seemed to be heading in the right direction Colby had an answer as Independence tallied just 17 kills while committing 10 errors. The Lady Pirates dropped the match in straight sets (12-25, 14-25, 14-25). 

"We didn't perform well at all," coach Daniela Pena said. "Our team looked intimidated by the tall block set on the other side of the netand we had too many errors that you just can't win with, so half of of the points that Colby scored were just given to them." 

"I wasn't expecting that result at all, but we have adjusted some things over the weekend and are mentally preparing for the next opponent. 

Independence is now 2-2 and 0-2 in conference play. The Lady Pirates return home to ICC Field House September 5th against the Garden City Broncbusters with first serve at 5:30 pm.
