Pirates Host Red Ravens In Montgomery County Battle Wednesday

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - With the season going quite well and playing with a high level of intensity, the Independence Pirates (12-7, 7-3) are at home Wednesday January 23 hosting arch-rival, the #5 Coffeyville Red Ravens (19-2, 10-1). 

"Coffeyville generates a lot of offense from their defense, so we'll have to take good care of the basketball and handle their press as they do a really good job of speeding opponents up," coach Tony Turner said. "They shoot the ball well, take good shots and move the ball very well." 

"We have to keep them from crashing the boards as they play very physical inside, so we'll have to match all those efforts and limit their shooting. This game is always a big deal no matter how the teams are doing, and it should be a lot of people in attendance to see who the winner of the Montgomery County Battle." 

"For this game, we really need our guards to step up to handle their end of the deal and take care of the basketball. We need them to play with some confidence and out hustle the other team to do what it takes to win a big game like this." 

Independence averages 74.4 points per game along with 39.9 rebounds per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field where Coffeyville averages 89.7 points per game with 41.3 rebounds per game shooting 49.0% from the field.
