Pirates Travel To Busters To Begin The New Year

January 3, 2019

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - Following the holiday break and riding a three-game win streak into the new year, the Independence Pirates (9-5, 4-1) begin 2019 with a road trip to face off with the Garden City BroncBusters (6-7, 1-3).

"This weekend will be a very tough, competitive game," coach Tony Turner said. "Our guys are a little sore, but we've been constantly trying to get back in shape to continue playing the way we did and get better throughout the season."

"Garden City is a very good team with some length that includes some guys that are 6-foot-8 with really good guards so we'll have to be extremely disciplined and play our game all night."

The Pirates scored 76.2 points per game while shooting 64.3% from the field and 44.7% from the field with a 29.6 three-point percentage in the first half of the season, while Garden City scored 78.9 points per game with 47.2% from the field and 31.7% from the outside.

Saturday's contest will begin with a 4 pm tip-off from Conestoga Arena.
