Pirates Hit The Road To Square Off With Grizzlies

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - Coming off their second bye week, the Independence Pirates (1-3) hit the road to face the #19 Butler Grizzlies (3-2) looking to build some momentum to the season. In their last game Independence fell to Fort Scott in a very hard to swallow game, 33-0 while last week Butler lost a battle to Hutchinson, 27-13.

"This past week was great and possibly the best week since I've been here," coach Jason Brown said. "We got to practice on the new turf field finally, which makes us not have to travel so much for morning practices and even though we had a few mediocre days we finished stong and I'm very excited to see how we perform on Saturday night."

The Pirates struggled offensively in their last outing and within the last two weeks, Independence has made some changes that were needed but also some that were unexpected as injuries have left them in a difficult situation.

"We are just going to have to run the offense the way we know how to and calm down," Brown said. "Unfortunately, AJ got hurt Wednesday and Jay is hurt as well so the nod will go to Chase Hildreth this week and I'm fully confident in him and his ability to make things happen. I know that the team will rally around him and I expect will get some great effort out of our guys tomorrow."

Last season, the Pirates dropped a heartbreaker to the Grizzlies, 31-27 in a hard-fought battle and look to settle the score facing off again at BG Products Veterans Stadium. "Butler is always going to be sound on offense and defense," Brown said. "They're going to play hard for 60 minutes and have a great crowd and give us their all. We're going to have to battle it out to the very end with 100 percent effort to come out with a win, because no one is going to hold back on us as we're the team everyone wants to beat."

Kickoff for Saturday night's game is at 7 pm. General admission at BG Products Veterans Stadium ranges from $5-$10. Fans can also stream the game at http://www.949kind.com/icc-sports/
