Staff Introduction: Coach Jason Brown

Coach Brown was born and raised in Compton California, by his father, Bill Brown and mother, Cecilia Sims. He attended Artesia High School in Lakewood California, where he was an all-league football player. He went on to further his education and football career at Compton Community College; where he was an All-American football player and an academic All-American.

 

After Compton Community College, he took a football scholarship to Fort Hays State University (FHSU) in Hays, Kansas. He was honored to learn under the legendary, Jeff Leiker. While at Fort Hays State, Brown started At Quarterback and eventually went on to break many school records in just a two year span; before earning his degree in Kinesiology in 2003.

 

Upon graduation, Brown became an NFL free-agent and was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. After a short stint with the Chiefs he moved on to play in the Arena Football League for the Bakersfield Blitz, Chicago Rush and Los Angeles Avengers.

 

After Brown's playing career was over, he quickly realized that he did not want to steer away from the game he loves and went into coaching. His admiration and passion to develop and mentor, young diverse student-athletes separate him from most.

 

Brown has had great success through his coaching career, he served as the Head Coach of his old Alma Mater, Compton Community College, from 2007-2009. He went on to become the Head Coach at Long Beach Cabrillo High School from 2011-2014 and recently served as the Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator at Garden City Community College in Kansas. At the junior college level, Brown has had the #1 ranked offense in California on numerous occasions, and was voted Coach of the Year on two different occasions, and has sent more than 130 players to Division I programs, along with having over 20 players in the NFL.

 

His track record has proven that he understands the process at the junior college level and has come to Independence Community College with high expectations, not only of himself, but of his staff and players as well. Jason has a vision to be a junior college powerhouse.

 

Brown is the father of Gizelle and currently resides in Independence, Kansas.
