Ira Stockebrand
Title: Head Coach: Football, Basketball, Track, Tennis, Golf

For nearly two decades, Ira Stockebrand did just about everything for Independence Junior College. Not only was he a longtime coach for football, basketball, track, tennis and golf, but he also spent time teaching.

Stockebrand began working at Independence Junior College in 1931 as he took over the sports programs. His most notable accomplishment came in football. During an 18-year run as coach, Stockebrand led the Pirates to nine winning seasons, including the only two undefeated campaigns in school history in 1932 and 1937. His squad still holds the school record for longest winning streak at 10 games from 1936 to 1937. Three of the school’s four Jayhawk Conference football championships were also won during that stretch in 1932, 1936 and 1937.

Even after being away from coaching for more than 60 years, Stockebrand is still the all-time winningest coach in Pirate football history with an overall record of 64-34-15. He also coached the Independence basketball team from 1931-49 and stands fourth in career wins with an overall record of 120-137. His basketball coaching career included two Jayhawk Conference and region championships in 1932 and 1941.
