Independence CC started the weekend with a match vs Metropolitan Community College and came away on the losing end with a 3-0 (27-29, 17-25, 17-15) decision to start the tournament at Coffeyville CC.  Sophomore led the offensive charge with 7 kills with freshman Mar Danes and sophomore Patricia Seller adding 6 and 5 kills respectively.  Once again, sophomore setter Hannia Rios led the offense with 16 assists.  Freshman Kalia Porter anchored the defense with 7 digs.  Indy CC dropped their 2^nd match of the tournament to host and #1 ranked (Division 2) Coffeyville CC 3-0 (15-25, 14-25, 18-25) to finish day 1 of the tournament.  Danes paced the offense with 9 kills while posting 9 digs and 3 aces for the match with Colon and Seller each adding 5 kills apiece.  Rios led the team with 23 assists for the Pirates.  Porter once again led the defense with 12 digs.

Day 2 started much better for the Pirates as they claimed their 1^st victory of the tournament against the JV team from Ottawa University 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-23.  Danes once again led the offense that produced 36 kills for the match with 12 kills with freshman Michala Kinzle adding 7 kills and freshman Brionna Byers adding 5 kills while hitting .625% for the match.  Freshman Tianna Phillips paced the offense with 16 assists, while adding 3 aces.  Porter once again anchored the defense with 9 digs for Indy CC.  The Pirates concluded the tournament with a come from behind 5 set win over Neosho County CC 3-2 (26-24, 14-25, 18-25, 25-23, 16-14).  Colon and Danes led the offense with 17 and 15 kills each with Rios adding a season high 50 assists for the match.  Porter once again anchored the defense for the 4^th straight match with a career high 23 digs with Danes not too far behind with 17 digs, notching her 3^rd double-double of the season.  "It was great to finish the tournament with two wins.  Our play was very up and down all weekend and we learned a lot about ourselves and what we can do as a team.  To come from behind and take Neosho County in 5 after getting down 2-1 really showed a lot.  This team never quit and just kept fighting all night.  Couldn't be happier with the day."  Head Coach Chris Taylor.
