Beavers Knock off the Indy Pirates

Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College (PCC) Beavers took on the top seed in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) on Saturday afternoon. The Independence Community College (ICC) Pirates came into the game recieving votes in the national poll and with a 20-4 record this season. The women's basketball team had fallen one spot to last in the conference rankings and were on a 16 game losing streak. None of that mattered on a Saturday afternoon in the Beaver Dome. 

The Beavers jumped out to a quick lead and fought off a few runs by the Pirates to maintain a two point lead at the end of one quarter. The Pirates took their first lead of the game at the 5:13 mark of the second quarter 30-29. The Beavers took a 36-35 lead into halftime. With 3:21 left in the third quarter the Beavers held a 11 point lead 51-40 over the Pirates. At the end of the third quarter the Beavers lead 53-48. Indy tied the game 60-60 with 4:07 left in the game, but he Beavers held on to win 68-65. It was their second conference win this season and first since November 20th.  

Sophomore guard/forward Christy Wiebe had 20 points for the Beavers. Sophomore guard Cassie Onwugbufor finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Finally, for the Beavers sophomore guard/forward Chariah Daniels had 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Beavers outrebounded the Pirates 33-31 and had 26 points in the paint. 

The Beavers will face the Broncbusters of Garden City Community College tonight at 5:30 PM in Garden City.
