Lakers Split in Ottumwa

The Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team traveled to Ottumwa, IA this past weekend to play in the Indian Hills RV Classic. The Lakers would win one and lose one at the event.

In their first contest of the weekend the Lakers would take on Independence Community a college a NJCAA Division 1 college. The Lakers would jump on Independence early and would never look back winning the game 78-71.

The Lakers were led by Jeremiah Burke who had a monster night with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Other Lakers scoring in double figures were Isaiah Williams with 17 points, Anthony Holden with 13 points, and Amir Crowder with 12 points. Independence was led by Josh Smith with 21 points.

"Good opening night for our guys. We dominated the glass out rebounding them by 16. Our defensive intensity was really good and we transitioned to score easy baskets." Said Laker Head Coach Troy Larson.

In their second game of the weekend. The tide would be turned on the Lakers. It was Cloud County who jumped on the Lakers early. The Lakers would fall to the T-Birds 76-62.

The Lakers were led by Anthony Holden with 15 points, and Isaiah Williams would score 14.

Cloud County was led by Justin Graham with 21 points.

We got off to a really bad start and didn't execute. We had poor energy and the really got after us on the defensive side of the ball, we have to shoot the ball better if we want to have a chance to win games." said Laker Head Coach Troy Larson.

The Lakers next contest will be their home opener on Monday night when they take on Dordts JV. Tip for that game will be at 7:30 pm in Laker Gymnasium.
