Red Raven Volleyball defeats Lamar, Sweeps Indy

Independence, Kan. - In a two-game match hosted by Independence Community College, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Volleyball Team grabbed two victories by defeating Lamar Community College 3-1 and sweeping Independence Community College 3-0.  With the two victories, the Red Ravens improved their overall record to 3-5 including 0-1 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play.

Against Lamar, the Red Ravens lost the first set 25-19 but then ripped off three straight sets of 25-10, 25-23, and 26-24 to earn the 3-1 set victory.  In the victory, sophomores Hannah Armstrong and Yeishka Reyes had 14.5 and 8.5 points respectively.  Freshman Nicole Soto pitched in for 8.0 points.  Sophomore Paola Molina led defensively with 17 digs.

Against rival Independence, the Red Ravens opened up quickly and easily dispatched the Pirates in a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-17, and 25-15).  Red Raven Hannah Armstrong was a force against the Pirates scoring 22 kills in posting 24.5 points in the match.  Sophomore Heather Stiles was second on the team with 9 points.  Paola Molina had 17 digs in the match and sophomore Cloe Mills pitched in another 14.

Next up for Coffeyville will be a Wednesday night (Sept 1st) KJCCC matchup against the Red Devils of Allen County.  Gametime in Iola Kansas is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
