Softball continues winning streak to 21-games after big week

The Butler softball team (25-2, 14-0) increased their win streak to 21-games after picking up six wins this past week. 

Butler defeated Barton on the road Tuesday, 21-1 and 12-1, both in five-innings. They hosted Dodge City the following day, Tuesday at home and defeated the Conqs 12-3 and 24-5, both in five-innings. They closed out the week on the road at Independence handling the Pirates 11-0 and 17-1.

Hannah Knox had a monstrous week for the Grizzlies as she hit .600 last week and hit three grandslams, had four doubles and 19 RBI's helping the No. 4-ranked Grizzlies to six more KJCCC wins. Knox finished with four homeruns on the week, three of which went for grand slams against Dodge City on Tuesday. She had a season high nine RBI's in game two against Dodge City. Knox also pitched eight innings for the Grizzlies alst week appearing in three games. She gave up just six hits, zero runs scored, walked one and struck out three. Knox is batting .470 on the season and is one of four Grizzlies with seven homeruns on the year. 

Maddie Redman, sophomore pitcher from Stillwell, OK, picked up three wins last week for the Grizzlies improving to 9-0 on the season. Redman was the game one starter in each of the Grizzlies three KJCCC double headers last week. Redman pitched a total of 14 innings during the week allowing just nine hits and three runs, two of which were earned. She gave up just one walk and struck out 21 batters on the week. Redman has an ERA of 1.38 in her 40.2 innings pitched this season. 

On the week Butler scored 97 runs and allowed just 11 runs against them. They have now outscored KJCCC teams 250 runs to 21 this season and average nearly 13 runs per game. Butler chalked up 95 hits on the week, 21 doubles and 18 homeruns.

Butler leads the entire NJCAA in batting average at .456 as well leading the nation in on base percentage at .523 and 2nd in the nation in slugging percentage at .816. Madi Young is second in the Nation with a .617 batting average and Shayna Espy is currently in fourth at .584. Butler is 8th in runs scored (345) this season, 4th in doubles (85), 11th in triples (14), 11th in homeruns (56), 6th in RBI's (316), and 16th in stolen bases (87).

Butler has won nine straight KJCCC titles and are off to a hot start here in 2021 chasing that tenth straight conference championship.

NEXT UP: Butler will head to Parsons to face Labette in a Tuesday double header. They return home on Saturday, April 10th for a KJCCC double header against Seward with the first pitch coming at 2:00pm.
