Lady Roadrunners Softball Recap March 1, 3 and 6

March 1 Independence Community College at Independence, Kansas

The Lady Roadrunners split a doubleheader with Independence Community College losing the first game 8-7 before bouncing back to win game two 8-3.

In game one, freshman outfielder Ellie Eckert of Auxvasse had three hits and two runs scored. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Josie Day of Holden had a pair of hits, including a home run and a run batted in. Day also scored two runs.  Sophomore middle infielder Summer Collier of Oak Grove had a pair of hits, including a home run and a run batted in. Sophomore outfielder Haley Berhorst of Holts Summit hit a home run and drove in two runs.

Sophomore Aleah Paxton of Lincoln went the distance in the circle for SFCC. Paxton gave up eight runs, six of which were earned on 11 hits and struck out three.

In game two, Collier added four hits and a run scored. Freshman infielder Kelsey Webb of Oak Grove had three hits including a home run and scored a pair of runs. Eckert scored three more runs. Sophomore catcher/third baseman Brooke Conner of Sweet Springs had three hits, a run batted in and scored a run.

Freshman pitcher Sadie Kumm of Higginsville pitched three innings to start game two for SFCC. Kumm pitched three innings and recorded three strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Tabitha Imhoff of Jefferson City finished the game for SFCC. She allowed three runs, none of which were earned and struck out one.

March 3 Fort Scott Community College at Mandy Thomas Field Centennial Park

SFCC opened the home portion of their 2021 schedule sweeping a doubleheader by scores of 12-9 and 6-1 against Fort Scott Community College.

Webb led the SFCC offense in game one with four hits including a double and a home run. She drove in a pair of runs. Freshman catcher/second baseman Haley Mackey of Lincoln registered four hits, including a pair of doubles along with a run scored and an RBI. Day hit a home run and drove in three runs. Freshman third baseman Allie Ferrell of Columbia drove in three runs.

Paxton got the start and the victory in the circle for SFCC. She pitched six innings and gave up nine runs, only six of which were earned on seven hits and struck out six. Imhoff struck out the side in the top of the seventh inning to earn the save

In game two, Webb had a home run and a double to go along with a run batted in. Conner contributed a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Alexis Gilliland of Jefferson City had a pair of hits and scored a run.

Kumm went the distance in the circle for SFCC. Kumm allowed one run on six hits and struck out three.

March 6 Iowa Western Community College at Council Bluffs, Iowa

SFCC (5-3) dropped a pair of games 7-0 and 6-3 to Iowa Western Community College.

In game one, SFCC was held to just four hits. Mackey had a pair of hits. Eckert and Webb had one hit each.

Paxton got the start in the circle for SFCC. She allowed seven runs, six of which were earned on 10 hits and was given the pitching loss.

In game two, Eckert led the SFCC offense with a pair of hits, including a triple and three RBIs. Collier also registered a pair of hits and scored a run. Berhorst had a hit and a run scored. Freshman first baseman Olivia Butler of Holden also scored a run in the game.

Kumm got the start in the circle for SFCC. She pitched 3 1/3 innings. Kumm allowed four runs on four hits and struck out three. Imhoff pitched the final 2 2/3 innings. She allowed two runs, one of which was earned on four hits and struck out one.
