Softball Sweeps Independence, Falls To NEO

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC softball team has played four mid-week games thus far taking down Independence in a conference doubleheader on Monday, before narrowly falling to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Tuesday.

KCKCC stands at 17-14 overall and 5-3 in the KJCCC.

MONDAY
The Blue Devils sprinted past Independence in game one with an 8-2 win, highlighted by a five-run third inning. KCKCC went up 6-0 before Independence scored one run in the third frame. The Blue Devils added two insurance runs over the course of the fourth and fifth innings to ride their way to the victory.

Annika Smith and Trinity Tauer each had three hits and two RBI. Emily Asford also added two RBI.

In game two, the Blue Devils led 5-0 after two innings. The Pirates added two runs in the third before the Blue Devils capped off their scoring in the fourth. The Pirates scored five runs the rest of the way, but KCKCC held them off down the stretch to notch their sixth straight victory.

TUESDAY
KCKCC hosted Northeastern Oklahoma A&M for a nonconference doubleheader showdown. The Blue Devils kept it close with NEO, but fell in both games by scores of 3-2.

KCKCC made a comeback in the seventh inning of the second game after being down 3-0. The Blue Devils managed to score two runs, but the Lady Norse held them to just the pair of runs.

Savannah Short led the offense with three hits, one run scored and one RBI.

KCKCC is back in action on Saturday when they host a big conference doubleheader against Cowley County.
