October 29, 2018

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - The stage is set, and the Independence Pirates have been working harder and harder everyday with practice and throughout their preseason scrimmage schedule. The team has showed a lot of promise and will step out for the first time this weekend.

"The scrimmages this year went quite well this year and we showed a lot of promise for the season finishing 3-3-2," coach Tony Turner said. "We played a lot of guys that we're evaluating on our 18-man roster, the overall preseason look well and we're really looking forward to getting on the court this season."

"Our sophomores are doing a good job in taking some ownership and being good leaders on and off the court and trying to prepare the freshmen to get ready to go. We play in a very tough league with a very tough schedule and they are pushing them to be the best that they can be."

The Pirates begin the season on the road traveling to Ottumwa, Iowa to compete in the Indian Hills Classic facing the Marshalltown Tigers on Friday November 2 at 4:30 pm and Saturday November 3 facing the top-ranked Indian Hills Warriors with a 7 pm tipoff.
