Jesse Ornelas returns to Independence Community College in 2019 as the Running Back Coach for the Pirates. He reunites with his mentor and friend, Head Coach Kiyoshi Harris. Ornelas returns to the Pirates in 2019, after spending the 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Pirates. In 2016, the Pirates went 5-4. As Quarterback and Recruiting Coordinator, Coach Ornelas had two QBs earn Division 1 scholarships: Jonathan Banks went on to be the starter at Tulane University and Alin Edouard earned a Scholarship to University of Texas – San Antonio. In 2017, Coach Ornelas coached Running backs and served as recruiting coordinator for the Pirates.  Under Coach Ornelas, Rakeem Boyd rushed for 1,300 yards and 15 TDs and Jamal Scott rushed for 500 yards and 5 TDs. The Pirates finished 9-2 and won the KJCCC Conference Championship, and won the Midwest Bowl, against NEO in Miami, OK. Rakeem is now entering his second season as the starting running back for The University of Arkansas, and Jamal went on to transfer to Eastern Illinois University. After a historic 2017 season with the Pirates, Ornelas took the Linebackers/Recruiting Coordinator Job at Iowa Central Community College. At Iowa Central, Ornelas helped the program go from a 1-10 record in 2017 to an 8-4 record in 2018, along with a Graphic Edge Bowl victory against Monroe College in Cedar Falls, IA. As Linebackers coach for Iowa Central, Ornelas coached All-conference LB, Spencer Cuvelier, and LB, Jackson Martens. Both linebackers transferred to division 1 program, The University of Northern Iowa.

Ornelas was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas by his mother Sylvia. He attended High School at Oak Forest High School in Oak Forest Illinois, where he was an All-Conference Linebacker for legendary Coach Brian McDonough. He went on to further his education at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. While attending Eastern Illinois, he was an Assistant Wide Receivers Coach under legendary Coach Bob Spoo’s coaching staff. After Earning his degree from EIU, he went on to coach High School football at several Chicagoland High Schools including: CICS- Longwood, Oak Forest High School, Bremen High School and Back of the Yards College Prep.
