Pirate Football Alumni Update - Week 5

Rakeem Boyd

Rakeem Boyd terrorized defenses last season with his speed and strength while at Independence and signed with the University of Arkansas. Boyd's first year at Arkansas started off less than stellar, but since week one he's been improving as an individual performer despite the struggles of the Razorbacks as a team.

In week 4, Boyd racked up yards both on the ground and through the air picking up 66 yards on eight carries and 39 yards on two receptions in a 34-3 loss to the Auburn Tigers.

Boyd and the Razorbacks (1-3) travel to College Station next week to take on the Texas A&M Aggies.

Emmit Gooden

Emmit Gooden was a dominant force last season getting to through the offensive line and attacking whatever came his way. After his time at Independence, Gooden signed with the University of Tennessee.

Playing in the SEC is very competitive but despite the increased talent, Gooden continues to impact the game recording two tackles this week in a 47-21 loss to the Florida Gators.

Gooden and the Vols (2-2) are on the road next week in Athens taking on the Georgia Bulldogs.

DJ Williams

Cornerback DJ Williams was a force in the secondary for Independence and signed with Utah State University. Williams was an animal on defense for the Aggies recording six tackles in a 42-32 win over Air Force.

Next week, Williams and the Aggies (3-1) have a bye week before traveling to Provo to take on the BYU Cougars.

Carlos Thompson

Carlos Thompson was one of the most athletic players last season for Independence with his speed and ability to make defenders miss.

Now playing for the Missouri Western State Griffons, Thompson hauled in two receptions for 91 yards and scored his first touchdown in a 66-16 victory over the Northeastern State Riverhawks.

Thompson and the Griffons (2-2) are at home next week hosting the Washburn Ichabod's.

Jonathan Banks

The starting quarterback two years ago was Jonathan Banks. Banks surpassed 1300 passing yards for the Pirates before signing with the Tulane Green Wave.

This past week, Banks went 8 for 14 passing for 141 yards in a 49-6 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Banks and the Green Wave (1-3) are at home next week hosting the Memphis Tigers.
