ICC Football Prepares for 2017 Season

With the 2017 football season just around the corner, the Independence Community College (ICC) football team has been hard at work preparing for what is sure to be a tough and exciting season. Head Coach Jason Brown says that practice has been a grind and a true gut check for the players.

"We've had our ups and downs," said Brown. "But overall, we are seeing improvements."

ICC will kick off the year with a game against Iowa Western Community College at 6:00 pm, Saturday, August 26 at Shulthis Stadium in Independence. The pirates posted a 5-4 overall record last season and beat multiple ranked teams within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. A member of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, Iowa Western went 6-6 on the season last year.

Brown says that the main goal for the first game is to go out and compete hard and fast and outscore the opponent.

The pirates are coming off of one of their strongest and most successful seasons in years. Their 2016 season stats and information can be viewed here: http://njcaa.org/sports/fball/2016-17/teams/independencecommunitycollege

"Our expectations for this season are to win one day at a time," said Brown. "If we do that, game days will take care of themselves."
