Blue Devils Mercy Rule Independence twice, 11-0 and 11-1

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team (20-14) swept Independence Community College (9-14) 11-0 and 11-1 Apr. 6 at the KCKCC Softball Field. Liberty Hawks was the star for the Blue Devils adding four hits, six RBI and scoring four runs on Saturday.

In the first game, Sydney Becker led the charge with a solid performance, tallying two runs and driving in two more with her lone hit in three at-bats. Kloey Dawes contributed with a run scored and a walk, while Hawks added two runs and an RBI. Adrianna Smith showcased her batting prowess, notching a run and two RBIs. McKenna Lester and Savannah Short each contributed with a run and an RBI apiece, and Jaycee Long managed to get on base twice with a hit and a walk, scoring once. Annika Smith and Kylie Vandervoort both delivered clutch hits, each driving in two runs. All 11 runs were scored in the first two innings, and the game ended early due to the eight or more runs in five inning mercy rule.

Alyssa Droge threw for all five innings letting up just one hit with seven strikeouts. Droge now has a 3.55 ERA and has 92.2 innings pitched with 87 strikeouts.

For the second game, Becker proved to be a standout player, going 2-3 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBIs. Dawes contributed one run and one hit in four at-bats, while Hawks dominated with three hits, including two home runs and five RBIs. Lester managed a hit and an RBI in two at-bats. Short also performed well, collecting two hits and drawing a walk. Long showcased patience at the plate, earning a run with a walk, and Vandervoort had a solid showing with one hit, two runs scored and an RBI.

Hanna Acree threw for the first three innings letting up five hits and one run with four strikeouts. Landri Lopez entered the game and threw for the remaining two innings of the game letting up just one hit while adding one strikeout.
