Team: Men's Basketball

During his two seasons at Independence Community College, Ron Roberts proved to be a force for the Pirates as he still stands in the top 20 list of all-time scoring. Originally from Port of Spain, Trinidad, Roberts came to ICC from West New York, N.J., after being recruited by Colorado, Syracuse and St. John's. He helped lead the Pirates to the 1984 Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division championship as well as a trip to nationals after claiming the Region VI crown. One year later, he averaged 20 points and nine rebounds as a sophomore to lead the Pirates to the program's third straight conference title. He went on to earn NJCAA First Team All-American honors. During his time with the Pirates, he finished with 902 career points, which currently ranks him 20th all-time in program history. Roberts was one of just two junior college players to be invited to the 1984 United States Olympics tryouts in Colorado Springs. Although he was looked at by Arizona State, Villanova and St. John's, Roberts chose to take his talents to Norman, Okla., to play at the University of Oklahoma in the Big Eight Conference. During his two years at OU, he played in 43 games, averaging five points and three rebounds per game. After college, Roberts played professional basketball overseas in Venezuela, Portugal, Israel, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
