The only NJCAA All-American in baseball history at Independence Community College, Kevin Haney made an immediate impact on the Pirate program during his first season at the school. After spending one season at McCook Community College in Nebraska, Haney transferred to Independence along with coach Jon Olsen. In Haney’s only season in 2003, he was part of the program’s first-ever winning season as they closed with an overall record of 27-26. He had a .406 batting average with nine doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 39 runs scored. He also recorded 24 stolen bases and 42 RBI. Haney was not only named All-Jayhawk East and All-Region VI in the outfield, but he was also named All-American.  He was the recipient of the Dr. Richard Taylor Most Inspirational Student Award at ICC. Haney left Independence for NAIA Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., where he continued his on-field success. With the Eagles, Haney was a two-time selection for All-Region 14, Florida Sun All-conference, Honorable Mention NAIA All-American and NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete. He was named Academic All-District by ESPN The Magazine in 2005. A graduate of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., Haney is currently a commercial airline pilot with ExpressJet Airlines and lives in Atlanta, Ga.
