Although Harvey Grant spent just one season at ICC, it was an impressive year as he captured NJCAA All-American honors in 1986. A graduate of Hancock Central High School in Sparta, Ga., Grant — who came to Independence after playing one year with his twin brother Horace at Clemson University — was a part of a Pirate team that went 25-9 and captured the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division regular season and playoff titles during the 1985-86 campaign. In addition to being named All-American, Grant was named to the All-Region VI team and selected to participate in the East-West Juco All-Star Game and the Texas Juco-USA All-Star Game. He was the recipient of the 1986 Jim Goodman Fan Favorite of the Year Award. After his one season at ICC, where he led the Pirates with an average of 22.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, he went on to play his last two years at the University of Oklahoma. The Sooners finished as the national runner-up during his senior season. Grant was selected by the Washington Bullets with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 1988 NBA Draft. He went on to spend 11 seasons in the NBA, including stops with the Bullets (1988-93), Portland Trail Blazers (1993-96), Washington Bullets/Wizards (1996-98) and Philadelphia 76ers (1999). During his career, he recorded 7,781 points (9.9 ppg), 3,436 rebounds (4.4 rpg) and 1,219 assists (1.6 apg).
