An Avid runner most of his life, Fay Bradley has continued to stay active in the sport well after becoming the first two-time national champion in the history of the Independence Community College track and field program.
A two-year athlete at ICC, Bradley was a captain for both the track and basketball teams from 1956-58. Although he was a starter in basketball, most of his success came on the track. His freshman season, he set the state record in the high hurdles in the Kansas Junior College Track and Field Meet with a time of 15.15 seconds. One year later, he won both the high and low hurdles at state to qualify for the National Juco Track and Field Meet in Hutchinson. Despite running on a water-filled track due to poor weather conditions, Bradley won the national 120-yard high hurdles in 14.95 seconds and also the 220-yard low hurdles in 24.3 seconds.
After his time at ICC, Bradley went on to become a CIC high hurdle champion at Pittsburg State University. In time, he continued to get recognition as he was the No. 1 ranked runner in America for the 50-54 age group, according to Masters Running Magazine.
