One of the most dominant rebounders in the history of Independence Community College basketball, Darryl Minniefield found his way to ICC from Chicago and had a stellar two-year career for the Pirates.

     Minniefield currently ranks second on ICC’s all-time rebounding chart with 830 in his two-year career while being ranked No. 14 in career scoring with 1,018 points. He also holds school records that remain 40 years after his playing career ended, including most field goals in a game (25), most rebounds in a game (33) and most rebounds in a season (528).

     An All-Jayhawk Conference and Second Team NJCAA All-American in 1971, Minniefield went on to play basketball at the University of New Mexico, where he finished 25th all-time in rebounding in school history. His 23-rebound performance in a March 3, 1972, contest against Utah were the most rebounds ever recorded in Western Athletic Conference history. He led the 1972-73 Lobo squad with an average of 13.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game and was named All-WAC that season.

     After his college career, Minniefield was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the No. 53 pick overall in the 1973 NBA Draft.
